This week, in episode 110, I start reading The Tomb Wife by Gwyneth Jones. This is a very cerebral tale, not to say that you have to burn out a few synapses just to understand it, but what I mean is, that it deals with loneliness, loss, isolation and know that your life depends on everyone agreeing what the "world" is suppose to be like. Plus I really think Mz. Jones' version of FTL is very inventive. Not to say that the terms have not been bandied about, but getting inside the people's heads that have to deal with this very abnormal way of traveling. The Tomb Wife is up for a Sturgeon award, and you will find that it is an righteous nomination. From the blog, taking a picture of not with light, Charlie Jade is busted to the minors, Phoenix, did it or did it not find water?, Is there a "Planet X"?, and how to measure the speed of light with chocolate! Yes Willie Wonka never had a clue! Get your sweet tooth ready, its time for Beam Me Up!

Email me at beammeup@gwi.net Beam Me Up podcast is the recorded version of the live radio program originating from WRFR lp/fm 93.3 in Rockland Maine each Saturday at 4pm. We stream the show from http://www.wrfr.org in real time as well. (select Live Steam from the main wrfr page) The theme of the show is discussion of current science fiction material. We have ongoing conversations about current, new and classic science fiction - what is currently in the theaters, in print and television. Also I like to include science articles that are just out there far enough that I think might influence new science fiction. As time permits, we play as much quality audio science fiction as we can. At least one or two stories during the show. Often I use fiction that has been released under Creative Commons or that material that might be in the public domain but often I ask the authors directly if we can broadcast their short stories. For additional information and or more material and links, please visit the show's blog at www.wrfrbeameup.blogspot.com If you have a short science fiction story and would like to have us read it on-air, please contact us. The show's email address is beammeup@gwi.net. Comments and suggestions are always welcomed.
